Purple Elves.

What better way to kick off a new journal than with some self-absorbed angst, eh?

Anyway, you'd be amazed at how rare erotic Warcraft literature and art is. A lot of it is poorly written or done, but there's a number of excellent examples in there. I've noticed one thing though, one recurring theme and it's absolutely vulgar: rape. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places, but it's funny....this is always, without fail, based around a member of the Horde raping a Night Elf. Every. Single. Time.

I've got nothing against power fantasies when it comes to erotica, but what is the obsession with full-on rape? A Troll forcing himself on one woman as two others are tied in the background, an Elf being held in place by several Orcs as another violates her, a Demon attacking one from behind and so on. I'm not saying that if it were a "real" person being raped everything would suddenly be ok, I just find it "amusing" that it's the same thing so often. I've been verbally attacked - often with quite a few intimate comments - when it comes to the level of involvement I have with Night Elves, mainly because they're a fictional race obviously, but it's no real surprise things like this aren't given the same level of hostility. Seems to be the "in" thing at the moment with the Warcraft community to brag about despoiling forests, slitting an Elf's throat or crushing their skull with their hands (and, once again, it's always a woman that's the victim). I can't remember who said it, but it was something along the lines of "rape, burn and pillage all you want but if you love another character in the game you're suddenly a sad old thirteen year old with social issues". Heh.

Just really needed something suitably negative to start my new LiveJournal off with, and this was it. Something with slightly more emotional value - something that can be understood outside my immediate social circle I mean - and less of my arrogant tone will be posted over the weekend.

A recent AiM conversation has given me a lot to think about.
